“The overrepresentation of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) diagnosis in Canada targeting immigration, newcomer and refugee populations strongly suggests intergenerational perspectives on family risk and threat during their settlement. Unfortunately, the significant prevalence of prolonged impacts of trauma across immigrant, newcomer and refugee second and third generations is real and hindering their potential of "real growth"!
The clear dialogue addressing their true challenges and difficulties is today our greatest challenge to meet their specific needs! Discrimination amongst students at school related to race and religion mostly targets those from diverse backgrounds, being constantly bullied with their parents and teachers suffering the cycle of pathologizing these children with their cross-cultural trait as “disable” or diagnosing them with a “mental health disorder/illness”!” – 'I Matter!'
