PRERNA is an all-volunteer organization helping refugees of all ethnicities and faiths become independent and productive citizens in the United States. We currently serve refugee families in California, by providing essential services to help them rebuild their lives. PRERNA empowers local refugees to not only survive but thrive in their new country.
The number of refugees worldwide has reached its highest point since World War II. That means over 23.5 million people have been forced to flee their home due to war, violence, and persecution. The current crisis in Bangladesh raises the need for greater refugee support. Yet, U.S. resettlement agencies are receiving fewer government resources and can only provide newly arrived refugees very limited help, typically up to 90 days at the most.
We meet a vital need in California by providing guidance and essential supplies to refugee families that they desperately need. Our continuum care and services include housing, supplies, healthcare, education, employment and cultural assimilation. Through ongoing support, PRERNA leads refugee families on a path towards becoming independent, productive members of our community.
By helping refugees become active participants who thrive in their new homes, the benefit to the U.S. can be immense. Refugees who PRERNA assisted previously are already paying it forward by helping new refugees when they first arrive. We look forward to many of our refugees becoming volunteers.
