Challenge

Through a series of workshops and a one day event (A Tree for Peace), the project educates children in Medellin about the importance of protecting Chocó's biodiversity. In the past, a great part of the irresponsible exploitation of this region's natural resources has been carried our by people from the mayor cities in the interior of country (like Medellín). Sensitizing children in Medellín will help create the necessary awareness to protect this vulnerable biodiversity hot-spot.

Solution

Workshops to sensitize 9-11 year-old children in 14 schools of Medellín and the celebration of the international annual “Tree for Peace” day in which children will share their thoughts, learned lessons and plans to help protect this rich ecosystem.

Long-Term Impact

By sensitizing 210 children in Medellín about the importance of the Biographic Chocó, this project will gain advocates for the conservation of this strategic ecoregion.
