Challenge

Lack of electricity in poor rural Kenyan homes has negatively influenced several development activities within these areas, among them being Makutano village, School children's performance is affected since they cannot carry out their homework and school assignments on time for lack of lighting systems at night. In addition, the residents of this area lack a stable income generating activity, which has made their economic conditions more difficult.

Solution

Our lanterns will be used by these school-going children to complete their school assignments on time, their parents may use also the lanterns to carry out their income generating businesses at night, also the economic activities that we will initiate will help them get a source of livelihood that will be regular and stable. This will help improve on the living conditions of these households and hence help break the cycle of poverty.

Long-Term Impact

The project will see improvement in the school performance of various schoolchildren within Makutano, reduce on carbon emission through the adoption of our solar lanterns and improved economic conditions because of the economic ventures. This will help reduce poverty and encourage independence and sustainability.
