Our mission is: (1) to prevent the transmission to future generations of hatred and resentment that are legacies of apartheid; and (2) to foster a culture of human rights among young people.
Many of the challenges facing South Africa have a direct impact on our youth, and place them at risk. Issues such as the widening economic disparity between different income groups, very high rates of unemployment, scarce skills, high crime rates, the HIV/AIDS pandemic all threaten their futures. Many teenagers in informal communities in South Africa live in poor households where their families often struggle to make ends meet.
Our mission is: (1) to prevent the transmission to future generations of hatred and resentment that are legacies of apartheid; and (2) to foster a culture of human rights among young people so that the mistakes of the past are not repeated.
The Youth Programme aims to improve the understanding of young South Africans of the human rights abuses that occurred during apartheid; sensitise them to the impact that this has had on all groups of people. The project reaches almost 2000 youths.
