Pakistan is ranked second to last worldwide in terms of women engaged in the workforce. Gaining support of male family members, MDF provides young women with training to learn entrepreneurial skills to start or grow businesses so that they may send their children to school, and lift their families out of poverty.
In Pakistan there are over 25 million school-age children not in school. Impoverished youth are extremely vulnerable to recruitment into extremist organizations. Now more than ever mothers and young women need access to education, training, and economic opportunities. Enabling this will result in increased access, choice, and prioritizing education for their children--fostering dignity and security.
We provide 1,000 women annually with training and market linkages to support themselves and their families. When women and girls earn income, they reinvest 90% of it into their families and communities, breaking the cycles of poverty.
Economic opportunities and empowerment of women and girls lead to more stable societies, growing market economies, and address health and education challenges so that they can chose peace and prosperity over violence and despair.
